Spend the summer in the great outdoors! Girl Scouts of North East Ohio is looking for fun, energetic people to join our summer camp team. You will work with girls aged 5-17 for resident and day camps. You will receive free room and board while camp is in session, and make lifelong friends with other camp staff, including international staff. We also provide the opportunity and fees for you to become certified as a boating, archery, or zip line facilitator. If you want to spend the summer making memories, and having fun, all while working with girls in an amazing camp environment, this is the job for you!
Position Summary: The Unit Counselor willwork as a team with other counselor\’s and Unit Leader to develop and implement unit program. Work directly with campers to provide fun, high-quality program opportunities. Insure safety of all participants. She/he also interacts appropriately with campers in a variety of situations using appropriate positive behavior management techniques.
Major Accountabilities: Assist in the leadership and guidance of a unit under the direction and supervision of the Unit Leader; participate in the general planning of the camp program; live with a group of campers and help each camper to adjust to and grow with other campers and camp life; demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers served; interact appropriately with campers in a variety of situations, appropriately modelling behavior in a positive manner; assist the Unit Leader in carrying out necessary safety and health regulations and camper charts; assist in the guidance of individual campers in the participation of group, unit and all camp activities; assist with program activities and other activities in the unit, working closely with Unit Leader and Program Director; assist with all camp program activities and other camp wide activities as assigned; assist in activity teaching as assigned; set standards/examples of courtesy, good taste, respect and proper manners throughout camp and in the dining hall helping with campers as needed; conducts initial and end-of-season inventory; store equipment for safety; reports all incidents/accidents to supervisor immediately; responsible for completing and returning all records to the supervisor; adhere to and uphold the safety and program standards of GSUSA, GSNEO and ACA for both campers and staff; maintain, Girl Scouts of the USA, Girl Scouts of North East Ohio and the American Camping Association standards at all times; as a member of Girl Scouts of the USA, ensure that diversity and pluralism is embraced and incorporated into the work; other duties as needed to conduct a successful program.
Requirements: Lives on camp property during resident camp (June-August); Must be at least two (2) years older than group working with; interest, knowledge and skills in a variety of camp program fields; youth-oriented program background a plus; demonstrated ability to successfully handle conflict resolution at all levels with a variety of people, including external customers; ability to pay close attention to detail and maintain coenfidentiality; Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
